Electoral Law & Policy
The National Registration System falls under the ambit of the Barbados Identity Management Act 2021 and this replaced the Statistics Act, Cap. 192 and the Statistics (Registration Census of Barbadian Residents) Regulations 1979.
The Electoral Registration System is governed by the Representation of the People Act, Chapter 12, which has as its second schedule, the Rule for conduct of House of Assembly elections. The Representation of the People (General Elections) Allocation of Broadcasting Time Regulations, 1990; the Elections Offences and Controversies Rules, 1959 and the Representation of the People (Registration of Electors) Regulations, 1990 are also legislation associated with governing the conduct of elections.
